If you haven't flown with one of our instructors before, we will ask you to take a dual check flight before you hire one of our helicopters. We will also check your Licence, log book and medical certificate for currency and validity.
Hour Building Programme
Once your PPL(H) has been achieved and you have taken your friends and family flying, you will want to progress your piloting skills. With this in mind we have designed a structured programme to guide you and help develop your PPL(H) skills.
This is also ideal if you are hour building towards your Commercial Pilot Licence or Flight Instructor Rating.
The programme includes, amongst other things:
- Flight Planning
- Navigational exercises, including trips to major airports and private sites
- Confined Area practice
- RT Practice
- Diversions
- Emergency Procedures

Advanced Flying
This can be anything you feel you want to cover, whether it is revision of the PPL(H) training syllabus for your next LPC or you have a specific landing site or route in mind, we can offer tailor made flight training to suit your needs.
Ideas you might want to consider are:
- Autorotations
- Mountain Flying
- London Heli-routes
- Left Seat Flying
- Navigation
- Confined Area practice
We recommend that pilots have a flight with an instructor periodically to keep your skills honed but it is up to you what you cover on these flights.
Licence Proficiency Check (LPC)
This is the annual check that must be taken in order to keep your helicopter rating current. This check can be taken any time within the 3 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the rating. The minimum flight time requirements are 2 hours as pilot of the relevant helicopter within the validity period of the rating.
We can arrange for your LPC to be carried out either at Sandtoft Aerodrome or at a location of your choice. We can carry out LPCs on the following helicopters:
